Profile: Nogolide Nojozi, South African Consul-General to Toronto, Canada
Nogolide Nojozi was born in the Eastern Cape on 13 March 1962 where she completed her primary and post primary schooling. She is a graduate from the University of the Western Cape in Bachelor of Arts and Information Science (post-graduate). She further obtained her Masters degree in Public Development and Management from Wits University, Johannesburg in 2000 where she conducted her research studies on equity and justice with a particular emphasis on the empowerment of women towards leadership in the South African Public Service.
In 1996, after her long activism in the South African student movement and in the liberation movement at large, she joined the South African Public Service at a national level where she became involved in assisting the policy-making processes that shaped the countrys new democracy. She spent most of her time in the public service working in the human rights field and specialized on gender relations and the right to development. During all that time, she became instrumental in articulating government policies on human rights, forging partnerships and cooperation between government and civil society, private sector and the oversight bodies such as the South African Human Rights Commission, the Commission on Gender Equality, the Youth Commission and Parliament.
She participated in numerous United Nations sessions as an Advisor for South Africa and delivered several statements on human rights.
Shortly prior, her appointment as Head of the South African Mission in Toronto, Canada, Nogolide Nojozi was serving on the South Africas National Task Team on the Millennium Development Goals that is involved in advising Government on the countrys position on the ten MDGs. The Task Team looked at analysis, progress and projections for South Africa stated in Professor Sachs Report and in achieving the set targets and goals towards poverty eradication and development of the Developing Countries and the Least Developed Countries.
Nogolide Nojozis passion is stimulating the Second Economy in the South African Society, working towards Africas advancement, its economic growth and development in ensuring prosperity for all.
